No. In Ontario you can book with a psychotherapist directly, without a doctor's referral. You can start with a free consultation through the online booking page. Some extended health plans ask for a referral before they reimburse sessions, so it's worth checking your plan's wording before your first appointment. ### Is psychotherapy covered by insurance in Ontario? OHIP does not cover psychotherapy in private practice, but many extended health plans do, including Blue Cross, Canada Life, Manulife, Sun Life, Desjardins and TELUS Health. Coverage for a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) varies by plan, so check with your insurer. You receive a receipt after each session to submit for reimbursement. ### How much does a therapy session cost? Individual sessions are $175, as listed on my Psychology Today profile, and a sliding scale is available on application. The first consultation is free, so you can ask questions and see whether we're a good fit before committing to anything. Many extended health plans reimburse part or all of the session fee. ### Can a teenager see a therapist without a parent in Ontario? Ontario has no fixed minimum age for consenting to counselling. A young person who understands what therapy involves and its consequences can consent on their own. I work with preteens and teens, encourage involving a parent or trusted adult where it feels right, and explain clearly who can see a young client's information. ### Do you offer online therapy? Yes. Sessions are available online by video for clients located anywhere in Canada, as well as in person at the Vaughan office near Jane and Steeles. Online sessions follow the same approach as in-person ones, and many people choose them to save travel time or to talk from a space where they already feel comfortable. ### What is the difference between CBT, DBT and EFT? Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) looks at how thoughts, feelings and actions affect each other. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) builds skills for intense emotions, distress and relationships. Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) helps you understand what your emotions are telling you. I draw on all three, alongside strength-based and solution-focused approaches, depending on your goals. ### Do you help with ADHD? Yes. I support youth, teens and adults with ADHD and attention challenges, focusing on understanding how your attention works and building practical routines for school, work and home. Psychotherapists in Ontario do not diagnose ADHD, so for an assessment you would see a physician or psychologist. A diagnosis isn't needed to start therapy. ### Where is the office, and can I get there by transit? The office is at 3100 Steeles Ave W, Suite 400, at the Jane and Steeles intersection in Vaughan. TTC buses run along Jane Street and Steeles Avenue West, Pioneer Village subway station is about 1 km away, and Highways 400 and 407 are close by. Clients come from across the GTA, and online sessions are available across Canada. ### Do you offer therapy in Italian? Yes. Sessions are available in English or Italian, in person in Vaughan or online. Some people find certain feelings or family experiences easier to put into words in Italian, and you can move between the two languages during a session. Mention your preference when you book your free consultation. ## Pages - [Home](https://filgoodpsychotherapy.ca/index.md): areas of focus, how it works, frequently asked questions and booking. - [About](https://filgoodpsychotherapy.ca/about.md): Filippo's background, training, approach and modalities (CBT, DBT, EFT, strength-based), registration and listings. - [Contact](https://filgoodpsychotherapy.ca/contact.md): contact options, office address, transit and directions, session hours and service areas. - [Privacy Policy](https://filgoodpsychotherapy.ca/privacy): how personal and health information is handled under Ontario's PHIPA, including for young clients. ## Service Areas In person in Vaughan at Jane and Steeles, close to Concord, Woodbridge, Maple, Thornhill, Richmond Hill, North York, Toronto, Brampton and Markham.
